A SATA Hard Drive Dock with 10 Gbps USB 3.1 Performance and Backward Compatibility (Both USB-C and USB-A)

Today we are excited to introduce the Plugable USBC-SATA-V Vertical Hard Drive Dock – the highest performance solution available today for accessing your 2.5″ and 3.5″ SATA drives.

Our newest addition to the popular Plugable hard drive dock family is a robust single-bay vertical design with easy install that requires no additional hardware or drivers. The dock includes a USB-C to C cable for future compatibility with USB 3.1 and beyond, and also a legacy USB-A to C cable for backwards compatibility with USB 3.0/2.0/1.0 ports.

These kind of hard drive docks are great for keeping a library of inexpensive, high-capacity, and high-performance bare SATA drives for video editing, movie libraries, large photo or music libraries, or multiple data stores for difference projects or clients. They’re also useful to recover drives removed from desktop or laptop systems.

Thanks to USB 3.1’s 10Gbps theoretical max speeeds, if you previously had a SATA hard drive dock and now have upgraded to a USB 3.1 host system (one with a USB-C port or a 3.1 Gen 2 USB-A port), you’ll find that your SATA 6G drives (especially SSDs) which were previously limited by USB 3.0’s 5Gbps performance will have that speed lid lifted. Support for UASP at the hardware and firmware level means the maximum possible performance with your operating system.

If you have any older PCs (USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 going the whole way back to Windows XP and older versions of OS X and Linux), our dock includes a USB-C to USB-A cable so you can future-proof your setup with a SATA drive dock that will work at maximum performance with older or newer computers.

The dock’s power supply comes with USA/Canada/Japan power plugs and is available immediately on Amazon.com, and shortly in Canada and Japan. For more information about the dock see our Plugable USBC-SATA-V product page.

We would love to share notes about your Plugable performance speeds. How fast can you go? Leave your comments below!

      Hi Stephen,

Good point! Right now this dock comes with a two-prong type ‘A’ plug that is compatible with American and Japanese outlets. We will release other plug types in the future for UK and EU.

To date Plugable has not launched any products with native Australian power plug types, but we will take your feedback into consideration for future product releases. Meanwhile we suggest using a power converter to make sure your USBC-SATA-V receives clean power in the land down under. Cheers!
