Pocket-sized SSD Performance Up to 10Gbps with Plugable USB-C to SATA Adapter Cable

USB-C’s high power and throughput enable an elegant and portable single-cable solution for connecting SATA drives.

Today Plugable adds another member to our growing lineup of USB-C products: the Plugable USBC-SATA24 USB-C to SATA Adapter Cable.

The USBC-SATA24 is a simple adapter cable that connects your 5V SATA solid state drive (SSD) or 2.5″ hard disk drive (HDD) directly to any USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port. Drives which take 12V input or require over 4.5W will not work, because the drive is powered from USB’s standard 900mA 5V power. Fortunately, most new SSD and low-power laptop drives fit in this power budget.

This adapter cable shares the same ASMedia chipset as our popular USBC-SATA-V dock, so you get the same USB 3.1 Gen 2 performance up to 10Gbps in a much smaller form factor. The 9″/24cm adapter cable is bus-powered over USB-C, so it does not require any additional power source. Portable yet still just as powerful!

Thanks to USB 3.1 Gen 2’s 10Gbps theoretical max speeds, SATA hard drives are no longer throttled by USB connection speeds. You will see the difference immediately when you connect a high-performance SSD to any computer equipped with USB 3.1 Gen 2 via a USB-C port or Thunderbolt 3 port. Support for UASP at the hardware and firmware level means the maximum possible performance with your operating system. Your SSDs can now perform just as fast from the outside of your computer as from the inside.

This is a great addition to any techie’s toolbox that absolutely needs the fastest SSD transfer speeds in a portable package. We consistently met the real-world transfer speed limits of our Samsung 850 Pro and Samsung 850 EVO series SSDs during the testing of this product. Our SSD’s became the bottleneck in our lab setup! And transfer speeds will only continue to increase as technology improves.

1_512The USBC-SATA24 is plug-and-play ready for Windows, Mac, and Linux. It supports all SATA SSD drives and most 2.5″ HDD drives with a 5V power draw. Check the drive label for 12V or 5V power input. Drives which list 5V (only) will work. For enterprise 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drives that require 12V power draw, we recommend the Plugable USBC-SATA-V instead.
