Plugable is a market leader in high performance Thunderbolt™ 3 peripherals, being among the first companies to offer Thunderbolt 3 graphics adapters, docking station, and storage solutions. In 2018 we launched our 480GB Thunderbolt 3 NVMe SSD which offered lightning fast transfers for content creators, power users, and gamers looking for uncompromising speed. We’re excited today to announce that even faster and larger capacity models this SSD are available now on Amazon in the US, Canada, and the UK.
Both new 1TB and 2TB models have upgraded NVMe SSD media, which, combined with the bandwidth of Thunderbolt 3, offer insane speeds of up to 2400+ MB/sec read and 1800+ MB/sec write, all without the need for an external power connection. In addition, we’ve upgraded the original 480GB model with this newer media as well. SSD drives are significantly more durable than traditional mechanical hard drives, and combined with a compact anodized aluminum chassis, they’re perfect for uncompromising on-the-go storage. Weighing only 6.2oz and with a minimal profile of 108mm x 65mm x 14.5mm, they can be tucked in a pocket or bag without hassle. We even included a carrying bag to protect their anodized aluminum finish and your other devices from scratches.
Intel Thunderbolt 3 technology offers blistering transfer speeds up to 40Gbps and is the perfect connection to take advantage of highly-performant storage technologies. Unlike traditional external storage solutions that are limited by the SATA III interface, NVMe technology allows solid state media to interface directly with your CPU via PCI Express, allowing vastly improved performance as well as lower latency and reduced CPU usage. With the TBT3-NVME1TB and TBT3-NVME2TB external solid state drives, you can experience performance like never before, often as fast (or faster!) than your computer’s built-in storage, and roughly 5x faster than traditional SATA III solid state drives connected with USB 3.1 Gen 2.
Our benchmark testing with a 2019 MacBook Pro 15″ with a PCIe x4 lane Thunderbolt 3 connection reveals massive performance numbers:
Here’s a benchmark of the same drive on an Windows 10 desktop system with Thunderbolt 3:
An important note that’s true of all Thunderbolt 3 devices: Although this drive will fit in any USB-C port, it’s a Thunderbolt 3 device. It will only work with Thunderbolt 3 ports, and not all USB-C ports are Thunderbolt 3 capable. So, for example, it will work on the Late 2016 and newer MacBook Pros with Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, but not the non-Thunderbolt 12″ MacBooks with USB-C. Or, even more confusingly — on some Windows PCs, the USB-C ports on the laptop are a mix of Thunderbolt 3 and non-Thunderbolt capable ports. So just make sure you’re plugging into a Thunderbolt 3 port before buying one of these drives.
As a special thank you to Plugable fans, we’re offering a limited time launch discount of $50 off the 1TB SSD and $100 off the 2TB SSD for those who purchase on Amazon.com. Simply clip the coupon on Amazon prior to checkout.
